Are You Facing Troubling Times?

Posted on: 28 April 2018

You probably figured out at a pretty early age that there would be disappointments in life. Remember when you had a brand new balloon? Then, pop! There it went. Maybe you got a new one, and maybe you didn't. As you got older, there might have been occasions when you weren't picked for the sports team you wanted, or you didn't get into the college of your choice.

Does it seem like, the older you get, the more serious your problems? It might be that you are going through a separation or even a divorce, Or, it might be that you have lost a loved one, either after a long illness, or suddenly. No matter the reason, if you are facing troubling times at this point in your life, from turning to prayer to finding a spiritual guide, here are some ideas that might help you.

Helping Yourself - Are you a person who already has a close connection to God? If so, you are already praying to Him. If not, consider doing so. You don't have to use fancy words. After all, He is the one you are talking to, and nobody else, right? Just speak silently, or even out loud, the words that are in your heart. Pour out your feelings and then just be silent, letting the peacefulness of your conversation remind you that you have Somebody who watches over you all the time.

Another way you can help yourself is by reading the scriptures that are traditionally used in your religion. For example, if you are Christian, you can turn to Psalms 23. Read and reread those meaningful words, and you will probably be reminded that Jesus Christ is the Shepherd and that you are part of His flock.

A Spiritual Guide - Are you already part of a church congregation? If so, then consider going to your ecclesiastic leader for help. You might be in a congregation that is so large that you feel like your ecclesiastic leader won't care. That's more than likely not true. After all, he or she became a religious leader because he or she wanted to help others, right?

Make an appointment or meet your ecclesiastic leader right after services and explain that you are going through a troubling time in your life. Explain that you need his or her counsel. Your ecclesiastic leader can be your spiritual guide, as he or she has the training and the experience to know how to counsel you.
